PAPAGENO MAGAZINE

Well this headline will be hard to top!  In May 2017, I was featured on the Hungarian arts website Papageno. The magazine regularly profiles different artists' renditions of the famous Hungarian pop song, 'Gloomy Sunday'.  (We actually had the article translated by two independent sources to ensure nothing was lost in translation...!)

Well, our subject is Matt Forbes — a debonair singer who is capable of generating this ‘feeling’ — of course, with the help of some excellent jazz musicians who provide a very good background to this almost five minute long opus. Matt, the uncrowned king of Canadian vintage pop, is the master of this genre and exploits his talent to the limits. Although this is not the classic ‘Gloomy Sunday’…his tone and stylistic changes to the rhythms create an excellent mood.
